Super-Easy Guide to Employability!

A couple of years ago you might have thought you had your future all planned out, but since the rise in tuition fees many young people’s paths have been littered with obstacles they were least expecting – financial, geographical and otherwise.
With the aim of diving head-first into the lucrative graduate positions, students can become too involved in their degree programme and fail to polish up their alternative skill set – skills employers don’t employ those without! This unfortunate minority is steadily growing towards a majority, as those lacking valuable work experience find that at the end of a long and expensive degree programme, they are pipped at the employability post by
less-qualified but more-experienced individuals.

What advice can we offer YOU?

Be the ideal candidate: Be the best of Both

These changing circumstances warrant that students change their approach to employability. The days of keen head-hunters at graduation days and guaranteed employment are over. We suggest taking on both:

Part-time education is an increasingly viable way of gaining valuable qualifications. Qualifications are a way of proving that you have an open, active mind and that you’re willing to listen, think and question. Further still, by learning from home, you retain your flexibility to work part-time!

Part-time employment is an excellent way of improving your skill set while sparing time for your other activities! In addition, learning the ropes at entry-level is a great way to build your understanding of the world of work. Employers place great value on real world experience, but they also appreciate the ambition of those intent on further education.

Combining these two essential aspects of the “perfect graduate” is actually very difficult to do as part of a typical degree programme. A 3-4 year academic grind during your most impressionable and developmental years is time well wasted when you can learn from the best of both worlds!

Remember: it’s not all work and no play. Enjoying yourself is just as important as anything else. Don’t be afraid to take time for yourself to develop your hobbies, socialise and have a laugh!

Combining education and employment is a fresh approach to achieving your dream career: Your on-going dedication to both will impress any interviewer, anywhere.
